Mundesley WI was founded in 1923 and is a member of the Norfolk Federation of Women’s Institutes which celebrated their Centenary year in 2019.
Our Mundesley WI meets on (usually) the second Monday of the month at Coronation Hall, Mundesley from 7 pm to 9 pm where visitors and new members are warmly welcome to join us.
In 2023 we celebrated our 100th Birthday. This was quite an achievement for a small village WI and serves to illustrate how the organisation is as relevant today as it has been throughout its long history.
We have a variety of speakers, craft evenings, entertainment, and discussions, and organise outings to local places of interest. In January members get together for a New Year’s lunch. We are in the WI darts league, hold a monthly ‘Knit & Knatter’ group plus a monthly lunch club.
Mundesley is a member of the Nor’easter group of W.I.’s. There are 4 local WIs within the group. These are Cromer, Roughton & District, Holt, and ourselves. Belonging to a group gives us the opportunity to not only widen our circle of friends but to join forces to enable us to enjoy extra events with speakers that may otherwise have been unaffordable.
We send delegates to County and National meetings and vote each year on a Resolution to be debated at the National AGM. These Resolutions are matters of national interest for example: Make Time for Mental Health, End Plastic Soup, Carers Welcome, More Midwives, Care not Custody, SOS for Honeybees to mention a few.
Mundesley WI supports local charities, including the Cromer food bank. We also support the ACWW (Associated Countrywomen of the World) which works to raise the standard of living of rural women and promote international friendship. We also take part in community events and hold successful quiz nights 3 times yearly.
Our meetings are advertised in the local press, Mundesley Library, Tesco, and on the notice board opposite the Mundesley Lifeboat Charity Shop in the centre of the village.
